Holy cow we made it! Brian Kachinsky and I just got back from Iraq and Kuwait and all I can say is WOW. Talk about a life changing and rewarding experience. We were over there doing demos to help entertain the troops. It was the first time BMX had been brought out to Iraq. We met so many Amazing soliders, had such a great time, and gained a new found respect for the men and women serving in the armed forces around the world. We gave away 6 complete DK bikes, made tons of new friends, and rode BMX in places and on things that have never been ridden on before. Check out some of the pictures:

BK and Catfish in front of one of Saddam Hussien’s palaces in Baghdad. Note the bomb damage.

A lot of new friends in Baghdad and 5 people that should not have weapons. Dave Osato, Mike Escamilla, BK, Chad Kagy, and Catfish.

We saw more helicopters than we had in our entire lives.

BK.

Catfish and a little bit of C4.

Catfish and a LOT of c4. This picture should scare you.

We gave out 6 brand new DK completes on this trip but Jake Lind from Minnesota already had one over there! Thanks for supporting DK Jake and more importantly thanks for doing what you do over there!

Will Anderson came out to the demo with a SAW (Semi-Automatic Weapon) but he left on a brand new DK.

To start things off with our revamped race program, the DK Race Team showed up in full effect at the 2009 NBL Grand Nationals. Many people found it awesome to see the “Big Green Tents†going up on Wednesday. The team did an amazing job representing this past weekend and really let everyone know that DK has never left! Jeremy Smith 15x killed it all weekend long and used his smooth, controlled skills to make some passes down the 3rd straight over and over again. A text book high-low brought chills to some of our guys back at the warehouse watching the races on the web, and a moto win for Jeremy. He ran into some bad luck in his semi and took 5th, which held him out of the main event. Despite him not making the main event, Jeremy ended the year with a very respectable National number 9. Way to go Jeremy! Jarred Johnson was coming into the weekend as one of the favorites for the big win and the year end title for 13x, but a bad fall earlier in the week earned him a broken wrist. Everyone thought that “Doc†was going to sit this race out as he didn’t show up for Friday’s practice. However, Jarred showed up on Saturday with a trimmed cast and was ready to shoot for that title. Jarred won 2 out of his 3 qualifying motos, and made it into the semi final where he ran into a little trouble keeping him out of the main. We all felt that this was his year and hated to see him get hurt. Due to all his wins throughout the season, he still took the National #7 for the year which is pretty awesome with a broken wrist. Get well soon Doc! AA pro Josh Smith rode extremely well this weekend. On Friday, Josh rode good through his motos but was just edged out for a spot in the semis. On Saturday with the Grand’s on the line Josh turned the heat up and rode tremendously well. Josh finished up with a 4, 5, 2 in motos giving him 11 points and an easy in for the semi. A great first straight in the semi made it look like Josh had it in the bag. A few bumps and ball ups ended up keeping Josh from the main but he rode extremely well and said that the weekend was all fun for him no matter what. Way to kill it Josh! The highlight for DK Bicycles this past weekend was none other than 17-18x superstar Tommy Zula. He was the most heard name in Louisville for sure. Tommy dominated basically every lap he had. Friday night he raced the UGP 16-29 open where he was the favored rider to win. A little slip on the first straight ended his night with a 2nd place finish. Come Grand’s time, Tommy was feeling good and hungry for a Number 1 title. He walked away from this race with a lot to be proud of. Tommy was completely untouchable from then on out, grasping wins in the NBL Grand’s 16-29 open main event, 17-18 Expert Main event, and the 17-18 Expert National Title. DK is making its name known in the race department, no doubt. There were a total of 18 laps won by a DK rider this weekend! Congrats to everyone on the team for a killer job. Way to go!

Tommy was throwing down x-ups and tables in all of his motos!
